Our latest “double feature” is based on a somewhat tragic story in addition to the interesting speaker equipment. The two “stars” of the “V2 Boogieman” pack, 2 Mesa Black-Shadow® MC-90 speakers from 1998, were originally installed in a Mesa Boogie Lonestar® Combo from one of Austria’s leading backline rental companies, M4M-Eventtechnik by Bernie Scholz. The Mesa® Lonestar, like many other noble amplifiers and speakers, was destroyed by the flood in the course of the great 2024 flood disaster in Austria. The two MC-90s were removed and dried anyway – and miraculously the two “Black Shadows” survived! Furthermore, Valhallir boss Andy found a real “underdog” on the second-hand market – a Bogner® Alchemist 2×12 Extension Cab, which, in contrast to the then extremely unsuccessful and unpopular “Alchemist®” amp series, the cab itself still enjoys great popularity long after its production stop.
The cab, which was also digitized here with the original Celestion® Greenback G12M and Celestion® G12H30 in its oversized, semi-open design as a complete IR pack, now also got a closed back version to adequately transmit the power of the two MC-90s. Of course, backshots of the Alchemist cab were also created, which we then used in the mixes to give the IRs an extra boost in the low-end. So we are happy to present you a “2 in One” Cab-Pack, which feels at home in every area of rock and metal music and does not need to shy away from comparison with the “big boys”.

Die G12M – G12H Kombination ist ohnehin eine gute Wahl und die MC-90 (CL-80) als CB Version überzeugen mich auch, zumal ich die eher als 112 Open Backs oder Ported Versionen kenne, passt also als Alternative so zwischen 112 Combo und 412 Closed Back perfekt.
Passende, gute Amp Sim davor, oder, wie ich das inzwischen lieber mag, echter Tube Amp durch eine gute Load Box und der Sound stimmt!
Ich bin ja ohnehin ein 212 Cabinet Fan, weil ein 212 etwas frischer und direkter als ein 412 klingt aber auch voller und satter als eine 112 Combo, also im Prinzip genau richtig, wenn’s eher um den guten, ausgewogenen Sound als um die Live-Stage-Durchschlagskraft geht.
Ich mag die 212 Sidewinder und Wolverines trotzdem, die klingen etwas spezieller, auch das Magnatone 212, aber dieses Set ist für mich eher ein guter Einstieg, mit dem man nichts falsch machen kann. Auch nett, wenn einem ein 412 G1M doch zu fett rüberkommt und klanglich flexibel ist es auch, was die Bass- und Höhenwiedergabe betrifft, wenn man verschiedene Mic-Kombinationen verwendet.
Rockt, klingt sehr gut und man bekommt im Prinzip zwei Cabinets (G12M – G12H Semi-OB und MC-90 CB) zum Preis von einem und das in typischer ValhallIR Qualität.
Ich will ja nicht meckern, aber was mir eventuell von ValhallIR noch fehlt, wären ein paar gute 8″ und 10″ Speaker/Cabinets, die für manche (LoW) Amps doch die bessere Lösung als 12″ Speaker sein können (Super 8, Falcon 8, P8R,..) . Aber das ist jammern auf sehr hohem Niveau, im Prinzip sind die ValhallIR’s für mich wirklich Oberliga.
