Here we have one of the most valuable Marshall® cabinets we’ve ever had in the studio. The Marshall® 1982 from 1970 is equipped with the legendary pre-Rola Celestion® G12H30 speakers, model T1281, with 55 Hz Pulsonic Cones. Anyone who has ever had the pleasure of listening to these Greenbacks, played by Jimi Hendrix, among others, knows that their legendary status is absolutely justified.
Only the defective Speaker A has been replaced with a newer G12H30 model from the British Heritage series, which, however, makes an excellent addition to the three “oldies.” It naturally shares the same characteristics as its older siblings, but its performance is somewhat more refined.
We extend our sincere thanks to Helmut Bibl for lending us this cabinet. The Austrian guitar legend, who has played with Falco, Andy Baum, Drahdiwaberl, Andreas Bukowski and countless other national and international acts, has entrusted us with almost the entire range of legendary guitar cabinets from his collection over the years, and since he describes the 1982 as his “by far” best cabinet, we have named the cab pack V2-1982HG (HG stands for HOLY GRAIL).

Klanglich für mich ein sehr guter, hier auch recht ausgewogener Vintage G12H-30 Sound, zwar ein wenig anders, aber eigentlich den G12M-25 im Green69 Cabinet gar nicht so unähnlich. Tendenziell etwas midgescoopter, in Summe etwas offener und transparenter klingend, würde ich sagen.
Auffallend finde ich, wie viele Unterschiede sich nicht nur bei Verwendung unterschiedlicher Mikrofone und Positionierung ergeben, sondern auch, welchen nicht unbeträchtlichen Einfluss auch die Speaker-Platzierung im Cabinet auf den Frequenzverlauf hat. Dass ValhallIR dabei die Captures aller 4 Speaker anbietet, ist vorbildlich, weil gerade bei diesem Cabinet alle 4 Speaker zwar nicht grundsätzlich anders klingen, aber doch, was den Frequenzverlauf betrifft, recht unterschiedliche Voicings zu liefern vermögen. Perfekte Basis für eine Vielzahl an eigenen Mixes.
Das 1982HG passt natürlich super zu einem Vintage Plexi, aber wohl nicht nur. Sogar für High-Gain funktionierten die G12H prima, finde ich, wenn man eine Alternative zu den doch tendenziell tighteren und aggressiveren V30ern sucht oder auch weniger schrill klingende, quasi etwas “musikalischere” Höhen mag, aber auch Clean gibt’s schöne Sounds. Allround Vintage, sage ich mal.
Würde ich auch mal mit einem JCM800 verwenden, der für mich – im Vergleich mit Plexis – im Bassbereich eher etwas unterbelichtet rüberkommt, funktioniert aber auch prima mit meinem DSL, der eher zu viel, als zu wenig Bass liefert.
Ob das 1982HG jetzt der “Holy Grail” ist, ist Geschmackssache. Ein wirklich exzellentes Cabinet für klassische Celestion/Marshall Sounds ist das 1982HG auf jeden Fall und ein Cabinet von Herrn Bibl ist mit Sicherheit wohl auch nie ganz verkehrt. (Belegt auch das wunderbare TBAC65 IR-Set mit den Silver Speakern, für mich nach wie vor eines der besten Vox IR Sets, die ich kenne.)
Wie üblich ist die Qualität Oberliga und das auch noch zu einem sehr fairen Preis. (Alleine die MPT und RAW Files sind ein dickes Plus, auch die inkludierten Mixes bieten bereits ein breites Spektrum an ganz unterschiedlichen Voicings.)

Outstanding general purpose IR. I found out about these from a recent Marco Fanton Youtube video on the G66 channel and decided to purchase based on the excellent tone that Marco had in the video. They do not disappoint.
I am a big fan of 80’s hard rock tones like George Lynch, John Sykes, Helloween “Keeper of the Seven Keys” album etc. With these IR’s I have been able to achieve closer to those tones than almost any previous IR, and all from the same pack instead of searching multiple packs to find a good sound.
Excellent job to Valhalla for releasing such an incredible cabinet IR!
